People with osteoporosis are at an increased risk for fracture. This is especially true for aging women. And while we hear alot about hip fracture risk associated with this condition, compression fracture of one or more spinal vertebrae is also possible. Preventative efforts often are a combination of diet, exercise, supplementation, early detection and medical treatment.
A minimally invasive surgical technique called kyphoplasty picks up the pieces of a fracture and supports the vertebral body by cementing it back into a solid unit. Kyphoplasty is a type of vertebroplasty.
