The X-Stop is a device that can be implanted in the lower back (between spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae) to help relieve the pain of stenosis. According to the FDA, the X-Stop helps to limit extension (arching backwards) of the spine, which may relieve symptoms.

The X-Stop is used for people over 50 who have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and who also have pain in the legs. If you experience a relief of symptoms when you bend forward, have been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis and have tried conservative treatment for 6 months or more, the X-Stop may be for you. It is best to discuss it with your doctor, though, as there are some instances (for example, ankylosing spondylitis or spondylolysis) where the X-Stop should not be used.
