64% of adults who go to a medical doctor (not a chiropractor) for back pain use muscle relaxants. When a 2004 analysis was done to find out how well the muscle relaxants fared for them, researchers found recovery from the back problem was 19% slower than for those who did not take the medication. The study did not look at what factors were responsible for the slower recovery.

Why don’t you quote some studies that show those who go to their DOCTOR of CHIROPRACTIC have
1. better outcomes
2. 85% less pharma costs
3. Are overwhelmingly more satisfied than their PCP
4. 65% less surgeries
5. Return to work faster.
Now that is health care. check out acatoday.com for additional facts.
Thanks for the comparison, Dr. Jeff. This study only looked at patients of allopathic doctors who took muscle relaxers. But I have also written about chiropractic and other alternative medicine for back pain. While fewer studies have been done on holistic treatments, I, like you, am of the opinion that they often get great results for people with neck and back problems, most of the time with fewer side effects.
What is Chiropractic?
Managing Chronic Pain Holistically
Getting a Back Massage
