Definition:

Adherence is a term used to describe how well a patient or client is sticking to:

  • their home exercise program
  • their gym program
  • the recommendations made to them by their health professional.

Some ideas for maintaining adherence to an exercise or therapy program are:

  • scheduling the program's activities so they are convenient
  • ask your therapist or trainer for a variety of activities that can be switched around
  • learn more about your condition, treatment, etc. by asking questions and researching
  • moderation
  • find caring role models.
