The facet joint connects the individual spinal bones into a a unit known as the the spinal column, or spine. The facet joint is a key player in keeping the entire spinal column stable, yet movable and flexible. Facet joints are also called the zygapophyseal joints. Problems with facet joints are a very common cause of back pain.
