Question: I have back pain. Does this mean I need back surgery?
Answer: Most sources agree that approximately 80% of people will experience back pain at some time in their life. Conversely, about 1 in 100 people will undergo back surgery.

For most cases of back or neck pain, conservative measures are tried first. Conservative measures include: If conservative measures do not relieve pain after 6 months, surgery MAY then become a consideration. The decision to have surgery is nearly always an elective one. It is also a major decision; therefore it is best made carefully, preceeded by thorough research, in conjunction with your physician.
