Bone Mineral Density Medications

Osteoporosis and osteopenia are conditions affecting the density of bones. People with osteoporosis and osteopenia are at an increased risk for spinal -and other types- of fractures. There are some medications that help to increase bone density for people with osteoporosis and osteopenia.
Raloxifene - Evista - Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Density Medicine
Raloxifene, brand name Evista is a medicine for osteoporosis that increases bone mineral density. Raloxifene, or Evista is a SERM - selective estrogen receptive modifier that not only increases bone mineral density, but also lowers cholesterol. Raloxifene, then, may contribute to a reduced risk of spinal fractures. However, scientists and doctors warn that although it reduces cholesterol, it still may not be safe to use in the treatment of heart disease.
