When weeding on the ground, good posture and a long spine begin with an upright, neutrally positioned pelvis. This is the position you use when you are neither reaching to grasp the plant nor pulling back to get it out of the ground. Pelvic neutral also provides a good starting point for our discussion on how to keep a long spine while doing the reaching and pulling actions, as these are necessary for cleaning the weeds out of the garden. As mentioned on page 1, you can establish an upright position of the pelvis by trying to place both of your sitting bones equally on the ground.
A neutral pelvis from the sitting position is one where the hip bones are directly above the sitting bones. To achieve this posture with ease, think about planting your sitting bones into the ground. When your pelvis is in neutral, your lower back will maintain its natural lordotic curve.
