Definition: The sacrum is a triangular bone located at the bottom of the spine. Because of its position between the 2 hip bones, the sacrum functions as a keystone (or wedge), stabilizing the bony pelvis.
There are no muscles that cross over the sacrum. This means that sacroiliac joints depend on biomechanical balance for a healthy alignment.
The sacral curve is a kyphosis.
