Whereas in the past, the recommended treatment for back pain was bedrest, it is currently known that bedrest acutally slows down healing and even makes the problem worse.

Remaining active is now widely prescribed to patients of non-specific low back pain.

Specifically, stretching and strengthening are the activities reported to yield the best results.
