Research has shown that the majority of people who have lumbar fusion are unable to return to work. Research has also shown that the use of painkillers often doesn't decrease for patients. (If you want to read about the research, it's in my blog post entitled Is Lumbar Fusion Surgery Worth It?)
My question to you is, if you know this sort of data ahead of time, do you decide to go ahead with the surgery or not? How much do hard numbers matter to you when making a decision to have back surgery?
