In the 2nd installment of Yoga for Back Pain, a collaboration between Ann Pizer, About’s Yoga guide and myself, we take on the supported bridge pose. Ann has the instructions on her site, while I have written about the benefits and precautions associated with the pose.

I love the supported bridge pose because it takes the challenges presented by the pelvic tilt the and puts them in space. By elevating the pelvis we begin to remove the familiar support coming from the floor, and instead introduce variables for the abs and back muscles to resolve through strength and stretch work. The result? Stronger, smarter core muscles, which help develop a centered, easy alignment and good posture. Please read my article Supported Bridge Pose for Back Pain first -- it will give you a run down on the benefits of the pose. Most important, it will give you precautions, to avoid re-injury and exacerbation of pain.
