The Public Has Been Mislead About OxyContin

OxyContin is one type of medication that some back pain sufferers use for moderate to severe pain. Because it is a narcotic, and works similarly to morphene, the possibility of addiction is there.

Today, 3 top executives at Purdue Pharma, the makers of the drug, admitted to misleading consumers about its risk of addiction, tolerance and abuse. The company said that six years ago salespeople took some liberties with claims about the risks that come with taking the drug, providing the foundation for an extensive marketing campaign. Unfortunately for the public, that marketing campaign was fraudulent. The New York Times has the details.
