Supporting your back with pillows may help to avoid or minimize back pain due to sleep positions.
Using pillows to support areas of your back where spinal curves are located may help to avoid or minimize back pain while you sleep.
Experiment with pillowing so that you can avoid straining your vertebral joints. This will help you to relax, so you can fall asleep and stay asleep.

Pillow support may be needed in the curves of your spine, such as your lower back and neck. While spinal curves are natural, they are areas that lack support when lying down. So check your curves and see if you can't help them by supporting them with pillows. Experimenting is the key.
