Avoid Serious Injury

The FDA has issued a warning that patients with implanted neurological stimulators are at risk for serious injury should they have an MRI done.

Comas and neurological impairment have been reported to the FDA, as a result of the combination of MRI and implanted neurological stimulators. The FDA speculates that the damage is caused when the MRI heats the electodes in the implant, which in turn affects the surrounding tissue.

To be safe, if you have an implanted neurological stimulator, speak with your doctor before undergoing a diagnostic imaging procedure. You can read the whole warning at the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health site.
