Definition: The rectus abdominis muscle is the most superficial of the 6 abdominal muscles. It extends from the front of the ribs to the front of the pelvis at the pubis symphysis. Its main job is to flex the spine forward.
The famous "6 pack abs" found on body builders and other very fit people, is due to a well exercised rectus abdominis.
